I am a 70 year old retired American Sign Language interpreter and college instructor. I taught American Sign Language and interpreting courses on the college level for 27 years in the Atlanta, GA area. I was a certified Sign Language interpreter for 40+ years, specializing in Educational Interpreting (kindergarten through post-graduate studies). My husband and I moved to Mexico after we lost our jobs due to the COVID pandemic. We had planned to move in a few years, before the pandemic occurred, but COVID caused us to change our plans. For one year, I taught English to Deaf juniors and seniors at the Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville, KY. After moving to Mexico, I taught my neighbors (mother/daughter) English for one year. I am currently learning my third language (Spanish). I think this will allow me to better understand and empathize with students who are learning a foreign language.
